Anant Singh and Videovision Entertainment will continue their Mandela Day association with the Mariannhill based NGO, Streetwise this year. The organization was introduced to Videovision Entertainment by the Nelson Mandela Foundation as a beneficiary and this association has perpetuated from the inception of Mandela Day.
Streetwise cares for street children while reconciliation work is done with their families. The children receive love, care and counselling from a team of dedicated social workers and child care workers and provides residential facilities for these children and also ensures that they have proper schooling. The goal of the organization is to reunite children with their families and also to reconnect them with their communities, culture and local education system.
Says Streetwise’s Sister Helena McKinney, “We are happy to receive support from Videovision Entertainment annually since the first Mandela Day. We appreciate their generous support which includes the provision of food stuff, toiletries and other necessities for the children, most importantly we appreciate the time that the people from Videovision spend with the children at our home. The highlight for them was the visit from Mr. Bones (Leon Schuster) on the first Mandela Day. It is always a treat for them to have people visit and show them that they care. It makes them feel very special.”
Anant Singh said, “Madiba’s love for children is well known. He once said ‘Let us reach out to the children. Let us do what we can to support their fight to rise above their pain and suffering.’ These words inspired us to get involved with Streetwise after the introduction to us by the Nelson Mandela Foundation. Also, we are delighted to have made available our film, Mandela: Long Walk To Freedom, free to the public at selected Ster Kinekor cinemas across the country this morning. We trust that the audience will be inspired to follow Madiba’s example.”
