It is with profound sadness that I learned of the passing of Justice Lewis Skweyiya today.
He played a significant role in the history of our country, first during the days of apartheid as a political and human rights activist, anti-apartheid lawyer and an advocate; and post apartheid as a High Court judge in KwaZulu Natal and finally as a justice of the Constitutional Court of South Africa.
We salute him for his meaningful contribution to our province of KwaZulu Natal and South Africa.
I am honoured to have had a man of his stature as friend. His humility, wisdom and wise counsel will be missed.
My heartfelt condolences go to his wife, Sayo and the entire Skweyiya family. I wish them strength and fortitude during these difficult days of bereavement.
