In the first collaboration between producers Anant Singh and Robert Lantos, Singh announced today that REMEMBER, starring Academy Award® Winner Christopher Plummer (Beginners) and directed by Academy Award® Nominated Atom Egoyan (The Sweet Hereafter), will have its World Premiere In Competition at the Venice International Film Festival to be followed by the North American Premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival.
REMEMBER, produced by Robert Lantos (Barney’s Version, Eastern Promises), and executive produced by Anant Singh (Mandela: Long Walk To Freedom) also stars Academy Award® winner Martin Landau (Ed Wood, Mission Impossible) as well as Breaking Bad’s Dean Norris. Music is composed by Academy Award® Winner, Mychael Danna (Life of Pi) and is based on an original screenplay by first time screenwriter, Benjamin August.
REMEMBER is the contemporary story of Zev (Academy Award® Winner Christopher Plummer), who discovers that the Nazi guard who murdered his family some 70 years ago is living in America under an assumed identity. Despite the obvious challenges, Zev sets out on a mission to find the guilty man and deliver long-delayed justice with his own trembling hand. What follows is a remarkable cross-continent road-trip with surprising consequences.
“Robert and I have been long-time friends and I am delighted to have worked with him on REMEMBER. It certainly is wonderful to have a South African / Canadian collaboration on a project as illustrious as this. It is highly exciting for us that REMEMBER has been selected for two of the world’s most prestigious film festivals,” said executive producer Anant Singh. “The powerful performances by Christopher Plummer and Martin Landau, coupled with the thrillingly dramatic storyline, delivers a gripping film which will have festival and mainstream audiences completely engaged. We are confident that these compelling performances will make the film a serious awards contender.”
REMEMBER will be released in the US and Canada in the Fall and in South Africa in February 2016 through United International Pictures.
South Africa continues to have a high profile at international film festivals and markets. This year, screening in competition at the Venice Film Festival is Endless River, helmed by award winning director, Oliver Hermanus. Additionally, the South African film industry will have strong representation at the Toronto Film Festival with a 20-strong delegation of emerging filmmakers led by Deputy Minister of Trade and Industry, Mzandile Masina. The trip is intended to give the delegation the experience of attending a major film festival and exposure to the workings of the international film market.
