WHO Director-General, Dr Tedros Ghebreyesus delivered the keynote address at the 138th International Olympic Committee Session in Tokyo on 21 July 2021. IOC Member and film producer, Anant Singh who attended the session, was moved by the address and created the short film entitled, ‘A Celebration of Hope’ to assist in the ongoing Covid-19 awareness effort.
Singh commented, “I was inspired by Dr Ghebreyesus’s speech as he drew parallels to the individual athlete’s pursuit of excellence and the need for each one of us to make the same commitment to each other, to be vaccinated and to beat the pandemic. Having worked on several films dealing with the messaging of the Covid-19 pandemic in South Africa, I felt that it was important to explore this visually.”
