MULTI AWARD-WINNING “LES MISÉRABLES” RECEIVES GOLDEN GLOBE NOMINATION

LES MISÉRABLES, the official French submission for the 92nd Academy Awards in the Best International Feature Film category received a Golden Globe nomination in the category Best Motion Picture – Foreign Language it was announced today.  The film is directed by Ladj Ly who co-wrote the screenplay with Giordano Gederlini and Alexis Manenti, produced by Toufik Ayadi, Christophe Barall and stars Damien Bonnard, Djibril Zonga, Alexis Manenti and Almamy Kanouté.   Producer, Toufik Ayadi and actors, Djebril Zonga and Almamy Kanouté visited South Africa to present LES MISÉRABLES at the opening of the European Film Festival which ended last night.

LES MISÉRABLES which was acquired for distribution in South Africa by Videovision Entertainment, won the coveted Jury Prize at the Cannes Film Festival this year, and is the debut feature film from director Ladj Ly who co-wrote the screenplay with Giordano Gederlini and Alexis Manenti.  The film also won the Best International Film and Best Screenplay awards at the Durban International Film Festival; Best International Film at the Jerusalem Film Festival; Audience Award at the Athens International Film Festival and the Michel d’Ornano Award at the Deauville Film Festival.

The film was released in France on 20 November 2019 where it emerged as the second highest box office earner in its opening week, generating more than US$3.5 million with almost half a million attendances.

LES MISÉRABLES will released in South Africa by Videovision Entertainment through United International Pictures (Africa), on 17 January 2020.
